Unless you change how you are, you will always have what you've got.

Life is a unique combination of "want to"and"how to"and we need to give equal attention to both.

The most important question to ask on the job is not "what am I getting?" The most important question to ask is "What am I becoming?"

Pity the man who inherits a million and isn't a millionaire.Here's what would be pitiful,if your income grew and you didn't.

We can have more than we've got because we can become more than we are.


Leadership/Management
The challenge of lesdership is to be strong, but not rude. Be kind, but not weak. Be bold, not a bully. Be thoughtful, but not lazy. Be humble, but not timid. Be proud, but not arrogant. Have humor ,but without folly.

Sometimes those who need it the most are inclined the least.

My mentor said,"Let's go do it"not "You go do it."How powerful when someone says,"Lets!"

Good people are found, not changed. Recently I read a headline that said, "We don't teach our people to be nice.We simply hire nice people."Wow! What a clever short cut.

A good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better.

If you share a good idea long enough,it will eventually fall on good people.

Leadership is the challenge to be something more than average.

Leaders, whether in the family, in the business, in government, or in education, must not allow themselves to mistake intentions for accomplishments.

Leaders must learn to discipline their disappointments. It is not what happens to us, it is what we choose to do about what happens that makes the difference in how our lives turn out.

Learn to help people with more than just their jobs;help them with their lives.

In leadership we teach we teach; Don't send your ducks to eagle school because it wont help. Ducks finishes eagle school, sees his first rabbit, makes him a friend.


Activity/Labor
Life responds to deserve and not to need. It doesn't say,"If you need, you will reap." It says,"If you plant you will reap."The guys says,"I really need to reap."Then you really need to plant.

The few who do are the envy of the many who only watch.

Make rest a neccesity,not an objective.Only rest long enough to gather strenght.

The soil says,"Dont bring me your need.Bring me your seed."

You must learn to translate wisdom and strong feelings into labor.

You must get good at one of two things;planting in the spring or begging in the fall.


Desire/Motivation
Humans have the remarkable ability to get exactly what they must have. But there is a difference between a "must" and "want."

The best motivating is self-motivating.The guy says,"I wish someone would come by and turn me on."What if they don't show up? You've got to have a better plan for your life.

When you know what you want,and you want it badly enough, you'll find a way to get it .

Motivation alone is not enough.If you have an idiot and you motivate him,now you have a motivated idiot.

If you wish to find,you must search.Rarely does a good idea interrupt you.

Without a sense of urgency,dersire loses its value.


Knowledge/Education
Learning is the beginning of wealth. Learning is the beginning of health. Learning is the beginning of spiritually.Searching and learning is where the miracle process all begins.

Formal education will make you a living.Self-education will make you a fortune.

We must learn to apply all that we know so that we can attract all that we want.

The book you don't read won't help.

If someone is going down the wrong road,he doesn't need motivation to speed him up. What he needs is education to turn him around .

Some people read so little they have rickets of the mind.

Miss a meal if you have to,but don't miss a book.

The great gift of the human imagination is that it has no limits or ending.

Nourish the mind like you would your body.The mind cannot survive on junk food.

Ignorance is not bliss.Ignorance is poverty. Ignorance is devastation. Ignorance is tragedy.

Ignorance is illness. It all stems from ignorance.


Results/Success
Success is not to be pursued; it is to be attracted by the person we become.

At the end of each you should play back the tapes of your performance. The result should either applaud youor prod you.

There are some things you don't have to know how it works.The main thing is that it works.While some people are studying the roots,others are picking the fruit. It just depends which end of this you want to get in on.

Part of success is preparation on purpose.

If you care at all,you'll get some results.If you care enough, you'll get incredible results.

Success is not so much what we have as it is what we are.

The greatest form of maturity is at harvest time.That is when we must learn how to reap without complaint if the amounts are small and how to to reap without apology if the amounts are big.

My goal is to translate response into results.Some teachers teach for others to learn.That's not me.Some teachers teach for others to accomplish.That is me.

Life asks us to make measurable progress in a reasonable time.That's why they make those fourth grade chair so small.

Success is the study of the Obvious.Everyone should take Obvious 1 and Obvious 2 in school.

I found it easier to get rich than I did to make excuses.


Goals/Plans
Goals.There's no telling what you can do when you getinspired by them.There's no telling what you can do when you believe in them.There's no telling what will happen when you act upon them.

Reason come first.Answers come second.

There are two ways to face the future.One way is with apprehension; the otheris with anticipation.

The guy says,"When you work where I work,by the time you get home it's late.You've gotto have a bite to eat,watch a little TV,relax,and get to bed. You can't sit up half the night planing, planing."And he's the same guy who's behind on his car payment.

When the promise is clear, the price gets easy.

I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacation with better care than they do their lives.Perhaps that is because escape is easier than change.

If you go to work on your goals,your goals will go to work on you.If you go to work on your plan, your plan will go to work on you.Whatever good things we build end up building us.

We all need lots of powerful long range goals to help us past the short-term obstacles.

We must be careful not to let our current appetites steal away any chance we might have for a future feast.

We all have two choices; We can make a living or we can design a life.


Time/Time Management
Time is our most valuable asset, yet we tend to waste it, kill it, and spend it rather than invest it.

We can no more afford to spend major time on minor things than we can to spend minor time on major things.

The greatest definition for concentration I ever heard is, Wherever you are, be there!"

You don't get paid for the hour.You get paid for the value you bring to an hour.

Time is more valuable than money.You can get more money,but you can't get more time.

Never begin the day until it is finished on paper.


Lifestyle
Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue all that you want.

Happiness is not an accident. Nor is it something you wish for. Happiness is something you design.

There are three things to leave behind; your photographs, your library, and your personal journals. These things are certainly going to be more valuable to future generations than your furniture!

The word"tip" stands for "to insure promptness."So when should you give it?Up front,of course. Sophisticated peopledon't take chances on poor service,they insure good service.

Let others lead small lives,but not you.Let others argue over small things,but not you.Let others cry over small hurts,but not you.Let others leave their future in someone elses hands,but not you. not you.


Business/Careers/Market Place
My father taught me always to do more than you gat paid for as an investment in your future.

If you a make a sale you make a living.If you make an investment of time and good service in a customer, you can make a fortune.

Don't just let your bussiness or your job make something for you, let it make something of you.

The worst days of those who enjoy what they do are better than the best days of those who don't.

One good customer well taken care of could be more valuable than $10,000 worth of advertising.

Don't bring your need to the marketplace,bring your skill.If you don't feel well,tell your but not the marketplace.If you need money,go to your bank but not the market place.


Resolve/Belief/Asking
Asking is beginning of receiving. Make sure you don't go to the ocean with a teaspoon. At least take a bucket so the kids won't laugh at you.

If you arenot willing to risk the unusual,you will have to settle for the ordinary.

There is no better opportunity to receive more than to be thankful for what you already have.

Thanksgiving opens up the windows of the opportunity for ideas to flow your way.

We must risk going too far to discover just how far we can go.

Resolve says,"I will."The man says,"I will climb this mountain.They told me it is too high, too far,too steep,too rocky,and too difficult.But it's my mountain.I will climb it.You will soon see me waving from the top or dead on the side from trying."


Skills/Fundamentals
Success is either magical nor mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying basic fundamentals.

There are only about a half dozen things that make 80%of the difference ina ny area of our lives.

Don't wish it were easier;wish you were better.Don't wish for less problems;wish for more skills. Don't wish for less challenges;wish for wisdom.

Learn to hide your need and show your skill.

Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines,practiced every day,while failure is simply a few errors in judgment,repeated every day.It is the accumulative weight of our disciplines and our judgments that leads us to either fortune or failure.


Choice/Change/Decision
Don't say,"If I could ,I would."Say instead,"If I can,I will.

It is our Philosophical set of the sail that determines the course of our lives.To change our current direction, we have to change our philosopy not our circumstances.

I used to say,"I sure hope things will change."Then I learned that the only way things are going to change for meis when I change.

Disgust and resolve are two of the great emotions that lead to change.

We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons;inspiration or desperation.

If you don't like where you are,change it!You're not a tree.


Fear/Doubt/Negativity
One of the reasons many people don't have what they want is neglect. Neglect start out as an infection and then develops into s disease.

We must all wage an intense, lifelong battle against the costant downward pull. If we relax,the bugs and the weeds of negativity will move into the garden and take away everything of value.

If you spend fiveminutes complaining, you have just wasted five minutes.If you continue complaining,it won't be long before they haul you out to a financial desert and there let you choke on the dust of your own regret.

Humility is a virtue;timidity is an illness.

Self-preservation has a tendency to lead to poverty.


Influence/Association
Don't join an easy crowd. You won't grow.Go where the expectations and the demands to perform are high.

There are two parts to influence.First,influence is a powerful.And second,it is subtle. You wouldn't let someone push you off course,but you might let someone nudge you off course and not even realize it.

You must constatly ask yourself these question:Who am i around?What are they doing to me? What have they got me readingWhat have they got me saying?Where do they have me going?What do they have me thinking?And most important,What do they have me becoming?Then ask youself the big question:Is that okay?

Let the views of others educate and inform you,but let your decision be a product of your own conclusions.


Communication/Persuasion
You cannot speak that which you do not know.You cannot share that which you not feel. You cannot translate that which you do not have.And you cannot give that which you do not posses. To give it and and to share,and for it to be effective you first need to have it. Good communication starts with good preparation.

The goal of effective communication should be for the listener to say,"Me,too!"versus"so what?"
For effective communication, use brevity.Jesus said,Follow me."Now that's brief!He could be brief because of all that he was that he didn't have to say.

What is powerful is when what you say is just the tip of the iceberg of what you know.

If you just communicate you can get by.But if you skillfully communicate, you can work miracles.


Kids
Kids are curious. Kids are watching ants while adults are stepping on them.

Kids ought to have two bicycles:one to ride and one to rent.

Of course kids should pay taxes.Tell littlie johnny if he wants to ride his bicycle on the sidewalk instead of in the mud,he's got to pay3 more pennies when he buys a candy bar.

Kids don't lack capacity,only teachers.

Here's what we must teach our children in the '90s-the skill of selective listening.Don't spend most of your time on the voices that don't count,voices that are going too add little worth to your future.Don't waste time on the shallow and the silly.Tune those voices out and tune in the voices that are going to add something to your life.


Finances/Wealth
The philosophy of the rich versus the poor is this:The rich invest their money and spend what's left; the poor spend their money and invest what's left.

To become financially independent you must turn part of your income into capital;turn capital into enterprise;turn enterprise into profit;turn profit into investment;and turn investment into financial independence.

If you are not financially independent by the time you are forty or fifty,it doesn't mean that you living in the wrong country or at the wrong time.It simply means that you have the wrong plan.

I used to say,"things cost too much."Then my teacher straightened me out on that by saying, "the problem isn't that things cos too much.The problems is that you can't afford it. "That's when I finally understood that the problem wasn't it- the problem was me!


Relationships
One person caring about another repesents life's greatest value.

Your family and your love must cultivated like a garden.Time ,effort,and imagination must be summoned constantly to keep it flourishing and growing.

The greatest gift you can give you somebody is your own personal development.I used to say,"If you will take care of me,I will take care of you."Now I say,Iwill take care of me for you,if you will take care of you for me."

The walls we build aroundus to keep out the sadness also keep out the joy.

You cannot succeed by yourself.It's hard to find a rich hermit.


Motivation
Motivation is a mystery.Why does one salesperson see his first prospect at seven in the morning and another salesperson is just getting out of bed at eleven?I don't know.It's part of the mysteries of life.

Give a lecture to a thousand people.One walks out and says,I'm going to change my life." Another one walks out with a yawn and says,"I've heard all this before."Why is that? Why wouldn't both be affected the same way?Another mystery.

The millionaire says to a thousand people,"Iread this book and it started me on the road to wealth."Guess how many go out and get the book?Very few.Isn't that incredible?Why would everyone get the book?A mystery of life.

My suggestion would be to walk away from the 90% who don't and join the 10% who do.

Ambition
Your business is never really good or bad "out there" your business is either good or bad right between your own two ears.

The real opportunity for success lies within the person and not in the job .

It is easy to get to the top after you get through the crowd at the bottom .

Success is not a destination, it's a journey .

The most practical, beautiful, workable philosophy in the world won't work - if you won't.

Motivation is the fuel, necessary to keep the human engine running.

Discipline yourself to do the things you need to do when you need to them, and the day will come when you will be able to do the things you want to do them!

Obviously, there is little you can learn from doing nothing.


Attitude
Positive thinking will let you use the abilities, training and experience you have.

Positive thinking won't let you do anything but it will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.

We all need a daily check up from the neck up to avoid stinkin 'thinkin' which ultimately leads to hardening of the attitudes.

It's not what happens to you that determines how far you will go in life; it is how you handle what happens to you.

You cannot tailor make the situations in life, but you can tailor make the attitudes to fit those situations before they arise.

Of all the "attitudes" we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing.

When you choose to be pleasant and positive in the way you treat others, you have also chosen, in most cases, how you are going to be treated others.

You can disagree without being disagreeable.

I've go to say "no" to the good say "yes" to the best.

To respond is positive, to react is negative.


Encouragement
Start your child's day with love and encouragement and end the day the same way.

You already have every characteristic necessary for success if you recognize, claim, develop and use them .

You cannot make it as wandering generality. you must become a meaningful specific.

The best way to raise positive children in a negative world is to have positive parents who love them unconditionally and serve as excellent role models.

You will make a lousy anybody else, but you will be the best"you" can lead someone else.

When someone we love is having difficulty and is giving us a bad time, it's better to explore the cause than to criticize the action.

Take time to be quiet.

Obstacles are the things we see when we take our eyes off our goals.

The best thing a parent can do for a child his to love his or her spouse.

Your mate doesn't live by bread alone; he or she needs to be "buttered up" from time to time .

Other people and things can stop you temporarily. You're the only one who can do it permanently.


Guidance
If you're sincere, praise is effective. If you're insincere, it's manipulative.

Everybody says they want to be free. Take the train off the tracks and it's free-but it can't go anywhere.

Many marriages would be better if the husband and wife clearly understood that they're on the same side.

The more you express gratitude for what you have the more you will have to express gratitude for.

Kids go where there is excitement. They stay where there is love.

Duty makes us do things well, but love makes us do them beautifully.

It's not the situation, but whether we react (negative) or respond (positive) to the situation that's important.

There's not a lot you can do about the national economy but there is a lot you can do about your personal economy.

Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.

You can finish school, and even make it easy -but you never finish your education,and it's seldom easy.

The best way to make your spouse and children feel secure is not with big deposits in bank account, but with little deposits of thoughtfulness and affection in the"love account."

You've got to be before you can do, and do before you can have.

All of us perform better and more willingly when we know why we're doing what we have been told or asked to do.

Money will buy you a bed, but not a good night's sleep, a house but not a home, a companion but not a friend.

Most x-rated films are advertised as "adult entertaintment,"for "mature adults," when in reality they are juvenile entertainment for immature and insecure people.

You don't drown by falling in water; you only drown if you stay there.

When you give a man a dole you deny him his dignity, and when you deny him his dignity you rob him his destiny.

Happiness
I"m so optimistic I'd go after Moby Dick in a row boat and take the tartar sauce with me.

Most of us would be upset If we were accussed of being "silly" comes from the old English word "seilig" and it's literal definition is"to be blessed , happy, healthy and prosperous."

The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what you want the most for what you want now.

Be helpful.When you see a person without a smile ,Give him yours.


Hope
Our children are our only hope for the future, but we are their only hope for their present and their future.

When you put faith, hope and love together you can raise positive kids in a negative world.

Failure is an event, not a person. Yesterday ended last night.

There are seldom.If ever, any hopeless situations, but there are many people who lose hope in the face of some situations.

YOu cannot solve a problem until you acknowledge that you have one and accept responsibility for solving it.

Character gets you out of bed; commitment moves you to action .Faith, hope, and discipline Enable you to follow through to completion.

The door to a balanced success opens widest on the hinges of hope and encouragement.


Integrity Character
If standard of living is your major objective, quality of life almost never improves, but if quality of life is your number one objective, your standard of living almost always improves.

If people like you they'll listen to you, but if they trust you they'll do business with you.

Ability can take you the top, but it takes character to keep you there.

The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to his or her commitment to excellence, regardless of his or chosen field of endeavor.

Keep your thinking right And your business will be right.

When a company or an individual compromises one time, whether it's on price or principle, the next compromise is right around the corner .

What you do off the job is determining factor In how far you will go on the job.

You build a successful carreer, regardless of your field of endeavor, by the dozens of little things you do on and off the job.

When you exercise your freedom to express yourself at the lowest level, you ultimately condemn yourself to live at that level.

With integrity you have nothing to fear, since you have nothing to hide.With integrity you will do the right thing,so you will have no guilt.With fear and guilt removed you are free to be and do your best.

When I discipline myself to eat properly, live morally, exercise regularly, grow mentally and spiritually, and not put any drugs or alcohol in my body, I have given myself the freedom to be at my best, perform at my best, and reap all the rewards that go along with it.

When we do more than we are paid to do, eventually we will be paid more for what we do.

What comes out of your mouth is determined by what goes into your mind.

You can get everything money will buy without a lick of character, but you can't get any of the things money won't buy- happiness ,joy, peace of mind, winning relationships, etc., without character.

Self Image
If you don't like who you are and where you are, don't worry about it because you're not stuck either with who you are or where you are. you can grow. You can change .You can be more than you are.

Some people find faultlike there is a reward for it .

Far too many people have no idea of what they can do because all they have been told is what they can't do.They don't know what they want because they don't know what's available for them.

Man was designed for accomplishment, engineered for success, and endowed with the seeds of greatness.

You were born to win, but to be the winner you were born to be you must plan to win and prepare to win.Then and only then can you legitimately expect to win.

When your image improves, your performance improves.

The greatest single cause of a poor self-image is the absence of unconditional love.

It's not what you know, it's what you use that makes a difference.

Success is not measured by what you do compared to what others do, it is measured by what you do with the ability God gave you.

Before you change your thinking, you have to change what goes into your mind.

Character/Integrity/Honesty
Be absolutely clear about who you are and what you stand for.Refuse to compromise.

Integrity is the foundation upon which all other values are built.

Truthfulness is the main element of character.

Deal honestly and objectively with yourself; intellectual honesty and personal courage are the hallmarks of great character.

Character is the ability to follow through on a resolution long after the emotion with which it was made has passed.

Confidence on the outside begins by living with integrity on the inside.


Competence/Excellence
The future belongs to the competent. It belongs to those who are very,very good at what they do. It does not belong to the well meaning.

People create their own success by learning what they need to learn and then by practicing it until they become proficient at it.

Every study of high achieving men and women proves that greatness in life is only possible when you become outstanding at your chosen field.

The foundation of lasting self-confidence and self esteem is excellence,mastery of your work.

One of the best uses of your time is to increase your competence in your key result areas.

Only undertake what you can do in an excellent fashion. There are no prizes for average performance.


Customer Service
Everyone is in the business of customer satisfaction. Who are your customers and how are they doing?

The purpose of a business is to create and keep a customer. All business activities must be focused on this central purpose.

You keep customers by delivering on your promises, fulfilling your commitments and continually investing in the quality of your relationships.

If your job is customer satisfaction, your real job title is Problem-Solver.

Offer your customer a long term relationships, then do everything possible to build and maintain it.

Express your admiration for the traits, possessions or accomplishments of your customer. Little things mean a lot.


Financial Independence
At least eighty percent of millionaires are self-made. That is, they started with nothing but ambition and energy, the same way most of us start.

Make a decision to be successful right now. Most people never decide to be wealthy and that is why they retire poor.

Money is hard to earn and easy to lose.Guard yours with care.

Successful people save in prosperous times so they have a financial cushion in times of recession.

Those who start with too little money are more likely to succeed than those who start with too much. Energy and imagination are the springboards to wealth creation.

Financial security and independence are like a three-legged stool resting on savings, insurance and investments.


Giving/Asking
Love only grows by sharing. You can only have more for yourself by giving it away to others.

Perhaps the most important word in success and happiness is the word,"ask."

Always give without remembering and always receive without forgetting.

Develop an "attitude of gratitude."Say thank you to everyone you meet for everything they do for you.

Ask for what you want. Ask for help, ask for input, ask for advice and ideas- but be afraid to ask.

Develop a benevolent world view; look for the good in the people and circumstances around you.


Goals/Goal Achievement
An average person with average talent ,ambition and education, can outstrip the most brilliant genius in our society, if that person has clear, focused goals.

The establishment of a clear, central purpose or goal in life is the starting point of all success.

Goals in writing are dreams with deadlines.

Committing your goals to paper increases the likelihood of your achieving them by one thousand percent!

Success equals goals; all else is commentary.

Rewrite your major goals every day, in the present tense, exactly as if they already existed.


Happiness/Self-fulfillment
Set peace of mind as your highest goal and organize your entire life around it .

Happiness and high come to you when you choose to live your life consistent with your highest values and your deepest convictions.

The Kindest thing you can do for the people you care about is to become a happy, joyous person.

The quality of your life is determined by how you feel at any given moment. How you feel is determined by how you interpret what is happening around you, not by the the events themselves.

Happiness comes when you believe in what you are doing, know what you are doing, and love what you are doing.


Influence/Mentors
If you could find out what the most successful people did in any area and then you did the same thing over and over, you'd eventually get the same result they do.

Get around the right people. Associate with positive, goal-oriented people who encourage and inspire you.

Be selective about your external influences. your multi-dimensional brain is influenced by everything you see, hear, read, smell, touch, feel or say.
